Default Tulsa

So........we go to Tulsa this morning. Have to buy more damn drill bits.

Also......had to return that POS drill bit set from Harbor Freight. Do not buy the 115pc drill bit set from them, they're not ground right.

Anyways.........we get to Wholesale Tool, and it's crunch time.

Have to buy a good set of bits.

K'kins is with me. I always like to go anyplace with her when she has the time off to come with me. And she's standing there listening to me bitch and moan.

They are out of the cheap sets. Have to back order them.

A guy that I know, that works there,, tells me to save my money, and buy the better set.

K'kins chimes in................................"How many trips do you make to Tulsa to buy these damn bits?" "At about 30 bucks a trip"

She takes her wallet out of her purse, and slams a 50 on the counter.

"Buy the good set"

I'm stressing about spending 225 for a set of bits, and she just slams that 50 on the counter, and says "it's on me".

I got about 45 coming on the return of the bits at Harbor Freight, and another 40ish in returns at Wholesale. So, it's adding up.

I make the commitment. "SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!"

She says.........."That's going in the bank ya know" DOH!!!!!!!!!!! We have this thing where we call it "in the bank" when either of us does something out of the ordinary for the other. Something to bring up later, ya know.

Nice set. You can tell the quality just by feeling the edges, and looking at the grind. Lotta damn money though.

Made in USA.

Somebody, somewhere, made a bit of hourly wage to make these.

And,, that somebody probably eats beef.

One hand washes the other........we've forgotten that in this country.

Lemme tell ya about K'kins.

She'd born and bred here. Tough as nails, and takes no prisoners.

We met when she was working at a convenience store as a second job. Her primary job is with a local oil company doing the books. She was after a second income to pay for her kids college, well.....actually to help pay. The kid is a good worker.

Good looking woman, about 9ish years my junior.

Pretty good smoker, like me.

Not afraid of work. Helps me with the cattle (for which, I return the favor)

Opinionated...............I love this in a woman. I like a gal that has some back bone. She's tough, and tells me when I'm full of crap. We share decisions. No boss in this house, we're equal.

Got me off the sauce. Just figured I'd rather have her, than a bottle of beer. I've settled for my weekly Beer Nite,, and all's good.

I'm a lucky guy

They come in all shapes, sizes and temperaments but finding a good woman who "fits" with you is a godsend. I found the right one 47-1/2 years, 6 kids and 6 grandkids ago and I consider myself blessed that she's put up with my shit all that time. Still puts a smile on my face and makes my toes curl up when she gives me a hug and a kiss. Used to be more but I'm just thankful that the toes still work...

Hi Farmersamm,
I have gotten to that point where I will ask about where a tool I am buying comes from. I no longer buy Chinese tools.

Not that I need many new tools at my age, but I would sooner chase a second-hand tool than buy anything that originated in China. The tool will fail or underperform at some stage.

One fastener shop I frequent has made a decent effort to source tools from places other than the PRC.

Of course, the prices are higher but I will accept that in exchange for tools that will carry me through well beyond the warranty period and perform to expectations.

As I wait to be served I can see that other customers, mainly tradespeople beside me being served are recognising this too and they are moving back up to a decent quality and purchasing tools and consumables that get the job done.

Hopefully, the idea will grow that we don't have to accept poorly manufactured crap and we consumers can buy better tools and equipment which is cost effective over the long run.

"What can Brown do for you today ?".....

Use the phone, stuff some numbers from your Credit Card into it.

Go back to productive, profit making work.

Nice man/woman shows up in a big brown truck, hands you
your drill bits.
