That could be fun. Have to look around and see if there is anything around the place that needs exploded.

Thermite is not an explosive.

But is still fun!

I generate lots of small scraps of 0-1 flat stock, an inch square-ish .

I won't hold my breath waiting for someone who wants them

You are more conservative than me. Anything less than 6" goes in the scrap. Just seems like there should be a use for the saw filings off the band saw. I am going to check out the local high school Science teacher this week.

O-1 is a wee bit more expensive than mild steel, and is usefull in small pieces for making punches etc.

FWIW I cleaned out a shotblaster, and dumped the steel shot "entrails"
in front of the shop, they hardened up nicely.

Our horizontal band saw swarf is about 70 pct Aluminum, 25 pct Steel, and maybe 5 pct brass. So I doubt it would be worth doing anything with even if it weren't in the bottom of the coolant tank as SLUDGE. :-)

Hit the local high school today and offered the saw filings to the science teacher. He was very happy to get them. Said he plans to share them with the chemistry teacher. My be nice to somebody is over for the month now!!!!

One would think that the teachers would be smart enough to find saw filings

Funny you should mention that. I asked if they had a welding/lathe shop and they said yes, two of them. I asked if they had saw filings there. He said good idea, I will talk to the shop teacher. DUH!!!!!
