I had thought about getting a die made. That's how National did it originally. In fact the whole body was made out of only two pieces of steel. The press came down on the sheet and press the top the sides and the sound well out of ONE SHEET. That's gnarly.

I never looked into pricing that because I had found on a fishing lure site someone being quoted like $8,000 to have one made and my quantities won't be very high. Maybe the quote was for a die that made 1,000 at a time?

The laser place will cut them for $90/set if I order 5 (there's those set up fee costs). Which is nice. They still can't cut brass.

Every cut on the guitar except the F-holes is hidden, either folded to make a flange to solder into the body, or covered by the cover plate (the big dome with holes in it).

I know there is negatives about mixing metal, I'm not sure if I could have them cut steel sound wells and use them in the brass guitar to save some cutting.

Well, one thing I know about fishing lure die/mold makers is that they don't work cheap. There's just not as much volume going through their shops, so it has to be made up on each part. A real shop might be a better choice, but it's still going to be pricey. And then, you have to have a press capable of pushing that kind of tooling.

Really though, having a set of stamps made to take out the F holes wouldn't be a bad idea. A plasma cutter would do a great job on getting the rest of the large shapes cut, and they could be cleaned up fairly easily because of the larger radii.
