"Passionate hatred can give meaning and purpose to an empty life. Thus people haunted by the purposelessness of their lives try to find a new content not only by dedicating themselves to a holy cause but also by nursing a fanatical grievance. A mass movement offers them unlimited opportunities for both."

well,a few years ago at a swap meet an old guy had 2 vise's on his table, real american made old 6'' vise's,i bought them both for 40 bucks.
they were real nice, not all beat up but they do need paint if you want them to look like harbor freight junk.
i have offered these vises to my friends at fair prices (without paint) and not one of them will buy them, but they go to HF and get a new red one..
WTH?
i just don't get it.

One thing I've noticed about the Chinko (HF included) vises is that they use BONDO to hide the porous castings. And the paint is not very solvent-friendly... Not to mention the jaws are often loose and/or mis-aligned...
