It seems like every week I do so
Something at work that was said impossible by previous machinist on our equipment.. Thursday I set up a new barrel for a small cylinder (10” OD with 1” wall, only 7 “ long) to drill and tap 20 holes for the head to bolt to. I used a bolt hole app on my phone, and also did a quick drawing on my cad program to verify it.

The boss’s expected me to put the head on the barrel and use transfer punches, which I felt would be un-machinist.

When I got done, all the bolts started right in nicely. Even the old guy putting the cylinder together came to me and said it went together nice.

I even got to use the big drill press to drill a port hole thru the barrel for the lock valves to operate correctly. Had to drill about 5” into the barrel wall, thru the freshly welded base. The big drill press made it easy with power feed.

Sorry, didn’t get many pictures, but here are a couple.

Chris, no I did not do the welding. The main welder is a little jealous if I go into his area to much.. But, I have done a couple welds on some cylinders though. I definitely need more practice for that, but I can do it if need be. I am one of the few in our shop that can do most any job needed, and then some. It is nice and the boss likes it that most guys are cross trained to do other jobs.

Here is a pic of the bolt hole app. I have an iphone, so I got it from the apple App Store, but I am sure there is something on the android side of things.

Brian, did you know that your posts would usually be more readable if you simply let all of your pictures scroll across the bottom like that 3rd one did?
You probably can't see it on your phone due to the small screen format but many of your embedded thumbnails wind up at random spots at various points in with your text.

I will try better in the future. I think it happens sometimes when I come back and edit a previous post to add more pictures. Usually I will type everything, then add pictures at the end.

Side job at home tonight. Cut out some 1/2” plate from old part of tube that I had used couple years ago for skid loader tree root digger.

Plasma cut out, drilled 1-1/16” hole, and welded onto bucket, then added 5/16” weld on chain hook.

Added a chain hook onto the fork attachment also.

Chris, have you found the bolt hole app that's built into your "Touch DRO" app yet?

Should be the next item right below "Add Point" - I haven't used it yet (or ANY of it, til I figure out how I'm gonna mount all 3 scales ) ) Steve
