Do you have any pictures of your support stands anywhere on here? Scott |

I just built those front and rear stands out of random junk, and the other two supports are just random pieces of light wall square tubing with a hole in them.
I hung the nose from a chain in order to roll it over, because the front stand is just a ghetto style steel saw horse. Only the rear stand has a pivot. The pivot bolt used to be the clutch pedal pivot from my dad’s old tractor. Because the center of roll-over is not in the center of this frame, I need a big wooden block when I roll it over. I want to thank you gentlemen for the encouragement. I was in a little progress slump where I was distracting myself with other projects to avoid this job for a while longer.
But now the iron is back in the fire and I’m gonna start shaping things up. I’m gonna let that paint dry for at least another 24 hours, and then I’m gonna cover up all the freshly painted stuff with cloth, paper and tape. I’ll put a fire blanket over that if I need to, so I can continue welding on the chassis. There is much repair and modification to do. I don’t wanna start with the next round of grinding and welding until I get things covered up so they stay clean. All the other parts that I painted are stashed away in the shed & in the garage until assembly time. I hope I can remember how it all goes together because I might be 90 by the time I get to that point. |

Looks like it is coming together. And it should outlast me!

You are welcome Scott, though it is not much when you consider how long it took me to slap it together. I’m not going into the business so this is a one-use tool.
This big rectangular frame girdles the underside of the pan and connects all the running boards to the pan, the seat risers, seatbelts, and fender tails. Way back when there’s a photograph of me welding steel tubing between these cross rails to make this welded frame. This is just hot rolled angle with bent plate perches on the ends. After I welded this frame,I shot a little paint on the ends where you could see it if you looked under just casually but the whole thing has never had any paint since 1981. I’m going to TIG up most of these holes. Right now I’ve done the minimum amount of cleaning so I can do the welding without too many flaws. I’m having a tendency to undercut when I’m doing backfill welds. I think it’s just a matter of technique and pedal control. |
