I've worked on plenty of soot blowers, but never in as nice an environment as what you are working in Platypus. And about 2 inches of coal dust to everything and 100 more units....

Jack, I understand the need to keep soot from choking up the firebox of the boiler but is there some provision to capture it after it goes up the stack?
I'm learning a lot from your posts. DrBob |

Bob, On this and about the last 5 or 6 of the economizers that I'll installed, have had nothing between the outlet of the economizers and the stack outlet. If there is lots of soot in the economizer, its going out into the atmosphere thru the stack outlet, when the soot blower is cycled. If its a coal fired or bio-mass fired unit, then there is usually a scrubber and a baghouse with outlet filters. jack

soot blower is to clean the soot buildup on heating surface of boiler.
there are different types of soot blower. here we are talking about steam soot blower. It uses the steam from superheater as cleaning medium. and even steam soot blower has many different models for different heating surface area, like long retractable soot blower, short retractable soot blower, rotary soot blower, rake type soot blower, dual media soot blower, etc. The lance goes into boiler and sprays steam at certain pressure and temperature onto heating surface. here are some other types of soot blower: acoustic soot blower, or sonic horn shock wave soot blower water cannon detonation soot blower Last edited by cutter; 07-22-2019 at 12:28 PM. When charliecharlie registered and I was considering his in estimable potential contributions to the site, I immediately remembered 5 O'clock Charlie from MASH. His only role in the show was to drive his sputtering little aircraft over or around or nearby the MASH unit every day at 5 pm & attempt to drop a grenade or something on them. He never came close to inflicting any damage but he put on a good show so the cast would sometimes assemble with drinks & chairs to cheer him on.
I have to say that sootblowercharliecharlie didn't let me down even though he only flew one mission. ![]()
