Default Hot cut hardie for Refflinghaus

So after working on the Refflinghaus anvil for a few months now I could no longer stand how the hardies for the Hay Budden made some 30 years ago wiggle around in the larger metric hardie hole.

I ended up starting with 3/4" X 3" 5160 spring and forged this beauty.

5160 and mild steel for the toes or wings.

Wow.

How do you make something so ignorant as a tool for chomping though hot steel look so pretty.

Would love to see a video of that being made, I just cant get my head around the process to go from 3/4x3 to that.

very nice piece.

Was it all hand hammered or do you use a power hammer or hydraulic press too?

There is a video on making a straight cut hardie though not nearly as finished at this but is also a smaller size..

All hand work.. I spent some time with the 6 and 9lbs hammers.. 5160 Metal of this size just doe not want to move..

It is a beautiful thing for something formed with hammers to be that even and symmetrical blows my mind

thanks guys.. I was hoping to test it out yesterday but ended up working on the swages instead so I could report back.

Maybe I'll have a chance today.
