Did I mention it looks even better in person...

Anybody on here whom is interested in copying the mailbox is certainly welcome to do so.. Besides that I figure no one here is a self hater and is having a desire to abuse ones self..

I think that piece of work should last a long time.......nice job.
Thanks,

Sorry about not being able to share what it was going to be/look like..

I myself had no idea other than the basic mailbox shape and how the door should look..

In order for me to make something I have to be able to see it in my mind.. If I can see it in my mind, I can build it..

With that being said. This project was strictly one moment and Idea at a time.. And is the reason it took so long to make.. One of those.. Lets try this.. Luckily enough each idea I presented worked the first time..

(other than the door weighting) which took 15 times to finally figure it out..

Other nice thing was I got to learn more about the lathe..

There is a joke here but I'll keep quiet this time

On the serious side, Jen, that is a fantastic looking mailbox! I like the idea of a whirlygig type counter weight myself. Congrats on a very well thought out and executed project.

Now that it is completed could you do a video of how it works in action?

You wouldn't be saying that the group is a bunch of self abuser would you?

I know I certainly am.. Each time I get a piece of equipment the first thought is excitement at what I will be able to do.

Then it becomes remorse since then I realize just how badly I need a new shop.. Or less equipment..

No I will not drive my car into the mailbox to demonstrate to take a video..

If this is what you were asking..

Mailbox got hit.. No damage but a little plastic left behind..

I would have loved to have seen it..

the tilt is off a little bit more but that's ok too.

Now I'll have to tighten the bolt again to hold it straight.

I had the plow guys hitting it every snow storm with both the plow and the wing and after the 20th time the bottom door weight got knocked off.. I stopped one of the plow guys and asked him to tell the group to stop hitting it..

He laughed and with a smile said " We had bets".. I said.. Well it's time to stop..

It looks like the truck was going off the road (eyes of road maybe) and swerved to miss the pole.. Sorry the swerve photo turned it was the only way I even knew it had been hit..

I'm still excited about it being hit. Literally nothing done but a little plastic left behind..
