When I was driving over the road, the pit style dock leveler was the best system. I liked the simple spring assist lift units, they had a ring attached to a chain in a recess hole that you pulled and it released the lock and allowed the ramp to pop up. Once it was up, you step onto the ramp pushing it back down at the same time the leveling plate swung out a caught the back floor plate on the trailer (the hinges are a piano type, designed to carry weight and stop when laid out flat 180*) When you where done, the truck pulled away and the leveling plate dropped back down 90 degrees, the ramp would then lay flat at floor level.
Not to be a wet blanket,,,,two things,,,, these ramps have allot of engineering to them. They must carry allot of weight, (forklift, forklift and load) the lift mechanism must work like clockwork. Second,,, liability,,, OSHA has a ton of rules on docks. For the time you'll have building it will be cheaper to buy a unit.

Caliber, I hated those spring loaded dock levelers, if I was using a hand truck for loading. They popped up OK, but I had to find something heavy to carry to get them to go down. A hand truck with a mattress on it, plus my weight wasn't enough. I needed more lead in my butt.

Default draw bridge

Back to the draw bridge idea.

Check out what I think the call a Bastille bridge.
(That is French spelling, and I am not even good at English.)

All the bridges across the Chicago river are this style.
So you can start looking there.

All mechanical.
A big quarter gear below the surface raises it almost vertical.
They have twin leaves meeting in the middle but, for your length, it could be done with one.
