J , thanks for the initial post. Got me thinking about the new shop. My intentions were to get a 3ph genset to power any 3ph equipment I might find for the shop. Now I think the VFD's might do me better. Also, welcome aboard!!!!

Just keep in mind, that you'll have to make sure that the drive can be feed with 1phase, and secondly, after I believe 3hp your going to have to double the drive size to compensate for the 1phase power loss. EX :5hp motor 10hp drive. The shop currently has 3 phase from a RPC piped throughout. If you have multiple large hp machines, it may not be very cost efficient
