Default Bent Pin

Got this Proto 15" wrench from a garage sale. The thumb screw was inoperative. Took out the pin that the thumb wheel turned on and found it was bent and cracked. Bought a 75 cent 5/16" 24 grade 8 bolt as the donor and machined it down to slip fit the the hole. Cleaned up the threads in the wrench body. Neighbor Bubba cut a slit in the threaded end so it could be turned with a slot screwdriver. Dab of silicone on the threads to stop it from backing out and now I have a good 75 cent Proto adjustable wrench.

Silicone: Low vibration Loctite. Hmmm, I'll have to remember that one.

You could also stake the screw into the slot of the head with a punch.

It looks like a Utica wrench to me, not a Proto. I have a small collection of adjustable wrenches. I like the Utica made ones the best. They seem to have tighter fitting jaws than the others.

It has Proto cast into the handle. Chrome plated not the black oxide they make today. The jaws on this one are tighter than most. Expect it will get lots of use.

I checked for a third time to be certain, the picture in your post is showing a wrench that is stamed U TI CA. Is this a different wrench or does is say Proto on the other side?
