Default Kennedy tool boxes score

So through ex-family and soured ties, luck found its way to me. Doug and Donna are moving from here in Ohio to Ga. Doug knows I am starting to do metal work so he was gracious and gave me 3 Kennedy tool boxes and a lot of assorted tools. A nice Do-all end mill set, dial indicators by Starrett, and a nice US made letter drill index among other odds n ends, I was floored to say the least!

Anyone have a drawer pull by Kennedy sitting around spare? I have one missing.

Easiest is to mill one out of brass or aluminum, and drill/tap it for a couple small button head screws. I think I have a couple to make sometime, will have to take a look, it’s down on the ‘to-do’ list yet.

A wire brush on a bench grinder will knock a lot of that rust off, then either scotch brite, emery or stones after that to finish cleaning things up. And then some light oil, fluid film etc is nice for storage.

Kennedy used to sell aerosol cans of the brown wrinkle paint.

Hi,
Nice score!

I posted about this before but...

I came onto a deal on a roll around Kennedy like yours in about the same condition.

Someone had sprayed a can of Pepsi or Coke on it and had not cleaned it off.

Of course everywhere the Coke was it rusted through the paint.

I spread a tarp out and got a small sandblaster from Sears and some play sand from Lowe's and blasted everything.

Went to ACE Hardware and had them mix some oil based paint as close as they could get to original.

Ordered what handles I needed from Kennedy and was good to go.

I payed $40 for the whole unit so was worth the doing, and the money to fix it up.

Now use it to hold all my Gunsmithing tools!

Looks sharp! I may try that with the bottom unit, any chance you have the paint code? I already have the sandblaster.

Hi,
No, the paint was used up and thrown away.

Nothing special, just take a drawer to ACE Hardware and they will match it for you.

Kennedy has "official" paint, but mucho $$$!!!

If you spread one of those cheap HF blue tarps out in the yard you can sandblast and then reuse the sand.

A little work, but these roll around 3 piece units new are $1000!
