Thank you guys, I appreciate all the you suck replies,
![]() Went out to the shed late this afternoon to do a couple of welds with the arc welder as I was waiting for the temps to drop down a bit, we are currently experiencing about 35C+ and 70% humidity so it's not conducive to going outside and away from the air con. Anyway here are 2 pics of some welds made with the CIG Easy welder, 3.2mm 6013 rods, 6mm steel about 120A. The welds are a bit shoddy as 99.9% of my welding is in MIG so don't get to practice using electrodes and so the welds are wonky, cold and tall. (That's my excuse and I am sticking with it! ![]() Hopefully if the weather cools down a bit in the next couple of days I will start to take it apart to get to the transformer and see what I can do to modify the secondary coil. I am not sure if this model uses a toroidal core or just a straight E&I laminated former, although I think it is the latter.

Good buy on the welder, but the gas cylinders once empty won't be refilled once you empty them.
Sorry to rain on your parade but its better to know now before you rock up to a company depot for a refill and be very embarrassed. The gas companies own the cylinders which they rent out( at exorbitant rates). -expect something like $15 -$20 per month -each In effect I fear you have purchased ed a pair of cylinders which still belong to the gas company. All current cylinders are bar coded so the companies have a track of them and theres no chance of them refilling empties without a check on them. Present the old empties at a depot and they will likely confiscate as they are the owners of them Clive was not kidding when he made the comment about the cylinders probably being nicked. The welding gas business in Australia is a racket .It is possible to buy your own cylinders- $300 each + the refill gas at $100 for the gas (E size) but you are constricted to buying the welding gases off the company where you purchased your cylinders. With plasma cutters gaining cheaper the call for oxy acetylene cutting is declining, though its still very popular for brazing and silver soldering. Nice welding beads with the Satincraft 6013 rods. Thanks Ozwelder, I don't think that they are nicked as they are the old C.I.G cylinders which was bought out once or twice. Probably got lost in the system changes decades ago. I think that they are that old that nobody is really interested any more. I did ring up the current distributor and they were happy to take them off my hands and so I said that I would give them a ring when I emptied them, they were quite OK with that.
If I need to get more gas I can go to Bunnings and get 2 more bottles, they do a $200 deposit/bottle and you get that back when you return them however long it takes. The gas is about $80-108 for a D size. Also BOC now do a "D" Plan which is about the same price on a rental full of gas for a year and you get a free refill during the first year. Bear in mind that I only paid $10 for the pair including a cutting torch so no real loss considering I have done some work with them so already got my monies worth back. Just picked up another lot of cheap Oxy-acet gear but will make a new post once I take a few pics of them. Cheers Ed.

Damn, I was going to move there, too (when they change their gun laws back...
![]() I have a great guy at AirGas. Swapped out some cylinders a couple weeks ago (2/23/2017). These are prices for gas since I own the tanks. He "upgraded" my 80 O to 125 for the cost of the gas ($26.29). Also upgraded N to an 80 since he didn't have a 60 to give me ($25.99). 300 Ar was $75.00 and 125 Ar was $45.00. 4" 3/64" spool of 4043 was $9.35 (x2). He also "forgot" the enviro fees, as well. ![]()
