The last acme threads I did last fall were all stainless. Those are worth having carbide inserts for, but even then, I think one tip lasted through all the parts I did. (Set of three if I remember right.)

I have some Kennemetal Acme inserts Top-Notch, you can buy them in 5 packs,
I think they are either 4 or 5 TPI. But I already had the holders for them 3
gauge IC for Top-notch/Top-Lok and have the clamp for both the Kennametal
and Sandvik geometries.

I also only ever used one of them and it is still good.
