Default 1910 Eagle anvil 200lbs

One of my farrier customers sent me a text wanting to know if I wanted an anvil. His brothers next-door neighbor passed away and the children will be cleaning out the place.

Of course, I could not refuse the offer.

Please don't say you got it for free...? I wish all anvils had mounting holes like that one.

Ok, I won't say it " I got it for free".. It just didn't cost me anything other than a drive up to load it on the trailer.

I'm a fan of the mounting bolts I use on the other anvils. I've seen the tabs snapped off the bottoms of the anvils by over tightening and not flat mounted.

Lots of corps drilled holes through the feet of anvils for mounting.

Wow to that! Nice find. Was it all oiled up like that when you got it to?
Sounds like a “You Suck” for sure.

No on the oil.

I linseed oiled the very bottom to help preserve it a little bit. It's pretty rotten on the bottom. Ideally I should have bought some of the penetration epoxy and sprayed it which more than likely is a moot point now because I ruined it by using the linseed oil.

It was my first line of defense and had a brand new gollan just sitting there vs ordering the epoxy.

The stump is huge and would love to preserve it. Perfect for the 330lbs Henry Wright anvil.

I'll order the epoxy to have on hand and try to figure out a way to to still use it. The bottom is rotted about 2 to 3 inches up.

I wire brushed the anvil to get rid of the loose rust and linseed to protect it till it's ready for a thorough cleaning. Was a quick taking care off after 9 horses and nearly 200miles.

Thank you, thank you very much.. I love a good suckage and to such an event it is much welcomed.

I try to explain the " You suck" to other people and they don't get it.

I just need to make something really neat on it and post back.
