Well, it was certainly around but in a kinder, gentler place away from hot chips & such.

If you mean the boring head, she loves it. Mildred is fearless, you know.
Or if you mean the little co ax indicator, she thinks it makes her look pretty and even more interesting.
Ol' Mildred is still a bit of a head case about her abusive past but she's come a long way.

1. the back of the motor again, different view.

2. got the holes located & drilled

3. then decided to crop the top off, just because. I'm not sure this part is even necessary because the front plate is secure but it seemed better to be safe about it.

4. Since this this piece cannot be welded if I want to be able to remove this motor I had to come up with another way to fasten it.

5. We got a couple of pieces of 1/2" square bar & put Mildred back to work.
You might have guessed it but every time I needed to work behind Mildred's motor mount I had to remove the drive belt & then re-string it every time she had work to do.
Fenner belts surely did make that easier.

1. Made a pair of these L-shaped doodads

2. Which fit like this

3 & 4. Took a little shrouding precautions before welding one to the back plate

5. Then Mildred shaved it down nice & flat. The back plate was little bit too tall anyway.

1. Of course, that meant the other ell was now too tall

2. So Mildred trimmed it down too

3 & 4. And Wilson got his jollies while we tacked that piece in place.
It requires a wee bit of gentle tapping to slip it in there & I feel confident it's not going to come loose once the three mounting screws are in place.

5. Now is as good a time as any to mention that the Final Grinder got to play its part in all this - smoothing rough parts, rounding corners and finally got tired of fighting the 2 big bolts that hold this whole thing in place, as well as squeeze Mildred's head in place on that round column of ill repute.
So I polished the flats on the bolt heads down a little bit. That makes them easier to wiggle in & out past the main motor mount.

That finished the actual motor mount so it was time to tie it to that first part to hang from the back of Mildred's head.

1. Another piece of the ugly red 1/2 x 3" flat bar. The old Sadsaw cut almost through it, a little farther than I actually intended.

2. Really didn't get any decent pictures of the oddball set up for welding this strange thing all together.

3. More strange thing

4. Finally hanging in place so if course, I had to finagle those 2 bolts back through the holes in the hex bars one more time.
I never could find a way to get a decent picture of this area.

If I had to do this all over I would try to trim all that up a bit & make the flatbar hang a little closer to the column but this will have to do.

5. Then began the process of trying to locate and align this contraption.
Fuzzy picture but you can see what I was aiming at all along, I think.
By the way, this didn't all happen over night.

1. Finally it was time to bolt this thing up so the elderly Clausing got the bid to drill the hole.

2. I got use my little Grizzly tapping head and I am always really relieved when it works.

3. The flat bar tapped very nicely.

4. A word from our sponsor: Remember when Anchor offered free samples?
This is the first time I've really put it to a test and I definitely like it.
It clings to the tap and the threads better than anything I've used.

5. Then the motor mount got some slots to allow for a little bit of adjustment.

Lunch break.

There is a genuine Nathan's hot dog down there under the cheese & chili, along with a little bit of relish & mustard.

The Anchor lube does work well on the lathe for me.

Good thing you didn't suffer a GNAP attack with that bait there.

I did give a little nod to the Northeast before I bit into it.
But the Gnap has one void in his taste, not liking cheese on his chili dogs and I had no onion rings.

After that we had to play a little squeaky ball since Wilson had only had one ride to the park for a few tosses when we went to buy the newspapers from the old disabled guy. Wilson requires more exercise than that.

This week, my old disabled buddy turned out to be a youngish lady with an fairly impressive rack that seemed to suffer from marginal suspension or something.
But she didn't seem to be disabled.

I had 4 chili dogs and 2 large orders of well done onion rings on Friday and I'm still working my way through the strawberry pie. So Cutter's food is safe, this time.
