now how often do you have to hard face and all that? dont you as the welder sorta want something that dosnt last that long because its more business for you? maybe you dont look at it like that and i normally dont ether.

From my experience its often not up to you. Unless you've been working for a company for a long time, and they pretty much listen to you, because you know best.

I guess it's like this. Big companies want it done, because they know that it last longer, and in the long run it will save them down time. And that equals money.

Smaller companies often don't want it done, because they want you out of there ASAP. Because you cost a lot an hour. And they want a quick "Cheap" fix. They are always on the edge of being in the Red. So whatever it takes and not an inch more.

If its up to me, I will always use wear products. When the bucket or blade has 30,000 hours on it, and is still going. They'll say, "That bucket has lasted forever". Who built it?

Give them the best you can. They will gripe about the money but when it starts coming back and the plates last longer they will remember you.

You do your best you can because if the customer dosen't think they have received value for their money - they might just try that other guy down the road.
