On my Speedy glass helmet , I haven't changed battery's in 15 years. I believe that it is solar powered with battery backup. Maybe check the battery contacts and of coarse make sure both battery's are in right side up. With new battery's it should have lit right up.

The batteries in my BWE lasted about ten years.

Mine requires setting in the sun about twice a year. Never tried to look at batteries, just put in the sun.

I have the titanium version of the BWE, I believe the internals are the same, it just has a more heat resistant shell (not sure its worth the extra money now that I have it). Anyhow, it has done the same thing to me a few times and putting it out in the sun seemed to make it stop. I have since quit leaving it in the helmet bag when not in use and I haven't had any problems lately knock on wood.

I hang my helmets in the window facing the rising sun. They always seem to be ready to work. Even if I'm not.
