I usually use an SS Starrett but it would not show up in the photo so I drug out an old carpenters rule.

Photo, I have a box full of those, if things work out normally someday you will have them. htrn

1 old shaft in place
2 rear of adapter, will have to be opened to 2 1/2"
3 front of adapter
4 shaft by ruler
5 shaft marked to what we need to make it work.
Charlie sent a plan to make the shaft longer and it looks like a really good to me. He will also machine the adapter to accept the new shaft. I am just waiting on the engine to see if the whole rotor has to be raised. I will have to build a mount for the front of the rotor and another for the engine. I am hoping the engine is short enough so that I don't have to raise everything.

I would not have thought of extending the shaft, this is Charlie's idea although it looks like a good one to me.

That will work fine OM but it still needs a trip through a lathe to get it all dead on with the taper. That's why I suggested making a stub shaft from scratch..Plus I didn't send you a picture.. ( Note to self. when explaining to a texican always follow up with a picture .)
