On the 100 ton at work we had bent two inch press plates .When you are near press capacity and it lets go ,be ready to change your under ware . Do not stand to the path of the explosion .

![]() My press won't ever be used to max capacity. I don't have any work that would require me to put out that kind of pressing force. The max capacity is "100 tons" but I have no intentions of ever maxing it out. If I bent plates it will be 1/4" or less. Realistically I'll probably just compress steel billets and press sheet metal into forms or something. Nothing crazy. Quote:

Many times you would be at capacity with nothing moving and some joker would go get a porta power .That was my time to have to go take a crap .

I have a 100 ton Enerpac, and I don't know where the 2" plate comes in.
As a non-engineer, I tend to copy the engineering done by a company making good stuff. For instance, my uprights are 4" X 3/4" angle iron. The work apron and the top crossbar are 12" channel that is 1/2" if I recall. Top bolted on with 6 - 1.5" bolts. With the pump I have, I generate 40 tons, and have never yet had something in the press that would not move or bend as required. If I ever need to go full tilt boogie, I do have a more powerful pump, but the safety factor gets narrow at that pressure.

Wow, a water-cooled 20 Amp outlet! I bet that could handle 30 Amps continuous, at least.

Wasn't there a member here who documented a 150 ton press build for his Dad some years ago? Maybe a different forum ...
