Noticed the shop fridge icing up. Temps were still fine but it had been a couple months so time to defrost. 2 screws to remove the freezer cover and 5 to remove the fridge controls and venting. Then a bucket to catch the drippings. Came back next day and a storm had taken the power out so reassembled under flashlight. Did some other things in the shop but ran out of light so it was time to go home.

Meanwhile wife informs me the washer wasn't spinning. She wanted to go buy some used POS but I made the executive decision to try to fix. Pump was working. Dogs were dogging. Pulled apart and found the original coupling broken. About 10min to get to that point. New have a metal sleeve built into them. This is a "direct drive" washing machine--the drain pump is powered off the back of the motor. Couplers from zamzon should be here tomorrow. A lib friend with prime helped me out with getting it...

This gootoob VIDEO was helpful although he didn't have a part2 up yet. Otherwise I might have dug a little deeper and replaced the clutch. Impatient me played it at 2X speed...

I cant leave broken appliances alone as well.... although we just bought a new washer and dryer. Got a pair of old school ( literally ), full non-energy saving speed queen commercials. The washer is built like a brick shit house. The splined shaft that runs the agitator is machined out of 2" stock and weighs about 40lbs.

The washer uses 47 gallons of water per load, makes me proud like a father ! First load I ran, septic tank backed up into the downstairs shitter.

Around here they call them " farmer specials ".

No Fucking LEDs, touch screens, just old school knobs,... only like 2 options on the washer, on and off, the last LG I had, you need a programming degree to run a load of laundry. Hated that thing, clothes came out soiled.,..

If that fridge is supposed to be "Frost Free" and isn't check the defrost timer. Some quit working, like mine did twice and got replace both times. The third time it caught fire and burned the wiring, so "New" used fridge. I shouldn't really complain the fridge lasted 49 years.

When our POS Whirlpool died after after I got tired of throwing Money$$$$ and parts at it. After some serious research we went out and bought one of the last generation Speed Queen old school washers it's a beast weighs at least 50 lbs more than the Whirlpool it replaced the only thing it lacks is the coin slot to make her run. I have worked on it one time I adjusted the water level in the tub. Obamasiah regs required it to be a water saver. Nope, an extra large load gets filled to the top of the tub as it should .

It is an $80 shop fridge. The timer went out and a neighbor gave me another one which I think the defrost circuit is burned out but it works... Manual defrost is about 5min to take apart and 5min to put together. The bucket is so I don't have to dick with pulling it away from the wall and sopping up the drippings off the floor. FYI: A "trick" with the timer is to turn it with a screw driver to get it to work again.

We drain the washer outside to milk more life out of the septic system...

While waiting for zamo to deliver, I decided to take the inner drum out so I could clean it and the outer drum. 15 years of scum accumulated there. First the churner cone come off with a long bolt from the top and slides up off a spline. To get the inner drum off requires a "special" tool for the 4-notch nut which I did not have. I also couldn't find any of my adjustable spanner wrenches of which I have several... Ended up tapping the notches CCW with a hammer and little Al scrap and is how I tightened it once clean. The nut tightened an inside "collet" up into it locking the drum to the drive shaft.

Everything runs good and it cycled a small empty load of water flawlessly. Still going to have to replace the washing machine soon enough as the inner drum had a couple non-visible rot spots that are not going to get better...

This tool ... had to use a deep socket because the shaft sticks up above the nut.

in my case.
had to remove the spin-tub in order to clean the self cleaning filter under the tub.. hammer was not going to do it or a pipe wrench
I needed a spanner that would work with an Air impact.

Not that this would help loosening, but I noticed that spinning the drum CW helped "tighten" the weirdo nut. Then a few alternating taps CW around the nut to final tighty.

PS: I DID blow out the motor of dust bunnies and cleaned the undercarriage while outside panels were off. I'm noticing my motor pic looked a little "hairy"...
