I have the north roof stripped to the rafters and most all the demo work done on it. There is a little more demo to do, than to clean up the attic floor and replace the jack studs under the rafters. One rafter needed replacement, I have it laid out and ready to cut.
The plan for today is, replace the jack studs, remove the bowing in three of the rafters with the new studs and start putting the purlins on.
After it got too dark to work on the roof yesterday, I started cleaning up the old shingles and wood from the roof. The wood I burnt, and the shingles I am stockpiling until I can get a dumpster in to take it to the demolition landfill.
Well it is off to get started with the rebuild.
Dan.

Forgot to mention, I need to buy more lumber, the way my Dad built the original flat roof included a 1-1/2" overhang of the 1 X 12 pine decking boards as a drip edge. Now fifty some years later, it is a problem, the easy way would be trim them back to the facia board and be done with it but then I would have to recut all the rafters and remove and trim the wood on the end walls. Too much farting around....
So, since the facia board is weathered to the point of needing replaced. I will buy two 2 X 8's and two new 1 X 8's to bring it out even with the decking boards. Simple fix , that will cure the problem of securing the gutter hangers to the building.
I am going to replace the old gutters with new when I finish the roofing up.
The gutters that are on the shop are salvaged from several sources over the years.

Well, it is ready for the purlins now.
Photos attached.
Replaced the bad rafter and installed new jack studs. I need to pick up some shorter screws tomorrow, the ones I used were 3-1/2" long. They really stick out of the stud, I caught my leg on one of them already
I am thinking of buying 10lbs of 2-1/2" construction screws, cheaper to buy 10lbs than 5lbs. Might buy a 1 or 2lb. box instead, if the price works out.
Well off to make dinner.
Dan.

Yep, during the week, and on weekends if my brother is working at his buddies shop.
Once I am ready to put the steel roofing on, my brother and a few friends are going to take a vacation day to get that part done.
