I broke out the TIG welder again today, and it went well. I was frustrated with the welder and I couldn’t seem to get it to pulse as needed.

I finally shut off the pulse and used the pedal and suddenly I was happy again.

Anyhow, I am customizing a bike for some rat rod club and made these funky brake arms up from two sets and some chain.

Do these rat rod guys have loud pipes?

A few are motorized, but it’s a bicycle club.

It took me a bit to realize how you did it cause bikes are unfamiliar to me. I see the weld is well hidden or you did fusion without a filler rod. I have done that on some delicate stuff and I was surprised how well it worked.
With Tig, I'm at that 'uncertain' level of experience, where you have good days and some days not so.

I Changed the tungsten six times for four welds, buddy. It seems to be drawn magnetically to the puddle.

First I bobbed off a left and right brake arm. I stacked identical unbobbed arms on top them. I took an unplated flat washer and ground it to fit inside the joint.

Then I could just blast right through the crack into that thick flat washer and not have to worry about burning back at the edges. This made for a very strong assembly.

I marked the hidden washer with an arrow because it’s not too obvious what’s going on in this photo. There was no welding in this area. That’s a really awful photo because the welded assembly sitting in a can of washers and springs.

I used some regular filler rod & I ground the welds down and burnished them so the parts would look nice. That’s why the structural washer was important.

Maybe loud cards in the spokes?

They’re mostly into these rusty paint jobs that look like you just pulled something out of a junk pile.
