That's pretty much it, except it has a round center plate (looks like it is stamped steel) that encloses the whole thing with only slits on each side where the steel rods go in.

I can't tell exactly what is broken. The handle turns, but nothing happens, so something inside that plate is broken. The plate is riveted to the backing plate and I can't even see or tell where the handle mounts to it (no visible screws). There are no screw heads on the outside of the handle either, just round, smooth heads (like a small carriage bolt head).

I'll try to get a pic later (it's pouring to be heat hell right now).

Well, if I can repair it, that'd be great ( suspect though I won't be able to). If not, then a similar replacement. Barring that, I'm thinking something simpler, like a pair of latch types, one in each bottom corner (the door is hinged at the top and opens upwards).
