I haven't looked lately but the knifemaking supply places used to sell die cut leather washers to make handles like this. They would stack up neatly and require a lot less trimming but they also wanted about 25 cents a piece for them! I can deal with the mess to save $8

I was going to mention the Estwing handles, and Matt beat me to it. If they still sell them, they are their top line model.

I have some here, I think there’s at least two hammers, and a hatchet. They used to make an axe with the leather handle too if I’m thinking right.
