its funny how often vise's come up on this site.
i have several that i use daily and i'm always laughing at my friends when they buy a NEW harbor freight vise.
i call them boat anchors.
well,a few years ago at a swap meet an old guy had 2 vise's on his table, real american made old 6'' vise's,i bought them both for 40 bucks.
they were real nice, not all beat up but they do need paint if you want them to look like harbor freight junk.
i have offered these vises to my friends at fair prices (without paint) and not one of them will buy them, but they go to HF and get a new red one..
WTH?
i just don't get it.
Randy

[quote=capt-ron;164438]Cutter,

I tried standing it up but the laptop must have been tilted a little as the picture kept falling over...

Now That's a South Carolina man!

TommyA,
Is that good or bad?

I made sure that there was nothing in the picture to get scutinized by these guys (like your cord). The picture of the shears will have them floating in mid air with no background.

I can play this game all day, besides it's raining in NC now and I have nothing better to do. Well that just changed, she just informed me of her hair appointment and she won't drive in the rain... I'll make her buy me lunch.

I think that Cutter should rotate your picture too. Then you can say that the cord is tied in the rafters to hang parts on for painting. You'll have come up with an explaination of how you're standing sideways too.

Have a good day,
CaptRon

CaptRon
The South Carolina things would be toward the good side after all I am a refugee from Aiken S.C., born in Spartanburg.

We have some good news tonight on the vise. It is now apart! I welded the nut to the vise and used the BigDaddyWrenchBender(Pipe extension) and worked it off. The locking pin was still there but with the threads locked as tight as they were I'm glad that I welded the nut and won't have to repair it.
Please pay no attention to the man(or cord) behind the curtain as they are of no danger to the rest of you. I personally will make sure of that or else we will need to create a sterile area for pictures.

Any way enjoy and comment all you want on the pictures.

jeez Tommy, that looks even more ragged wet than it did before you got it apart.
Off to the de-rusting tank? 48 hours could make a big difference.

Glad to see it in pieces.
It would be a good candidate for a Carolina Sand Blast.
A pick-up, a chain, and a dirt road.
After a few miles you should be able to see your reflection...
Beer makes the process go faster.

If you happen to meet a cop headed the other direction a quick yank on the steering wheel can sling the vise into his lane and take out his tires. This should give you enough time to ditch the beer, stash the vise, and sobber up. Plus, remember if you do get nabbed by the cops the vise will wait on you. You may however, need to start all over again.

Looking good Tommy!

Now is the time for a dunk in the electrolysis tank like Cutter said.

Please resist the urge to sand-blast. Pitted steel is ok...missing steel is bad. Especially anywhere the parts touch.

Once it's all clean, ignore Cutters screams as you spray a coat of tremclad on her to keep the rust down. Or, do like an old school blacksmith & heat up all the parts & coat 'em in beeswax.

Of course, now you'll have to join the gang with your very own version of a vise mount.
