Default Hobart 145 Engine Welder

I'm considering purchasing one of these welders. Does anyone have any feedback on them?

No first hand experience, but I cannot remember the last time I needed more than 145 amps. Usually max used is around 130 amps. Never had anything with a Briggs 10 hp either.

Really depends what you're going to use it for. At 145 amps (max) and 30 per cent duty cycle you're not going to be doing much serious welding...

The spec I just looked at said 30% duty cycle at 130amps not 145.

If that’s the case my guess would be about 10% at full power. That’s probably one welding rod and the machine will be about ready to catch fire.

In my view the 145amp figure is just an attention grabbing headline. It’s really no more that a 130amp, so ok for a bit of work with 1/8” rods and that’s about it.

I have run one and I think that it would be perfect for small repairs around the yard and as a portable generator. 30 percent means you can run it 3 minutes of continuous welding at 130 amps and rest for seven minutes.

If I remember right the one thing I didn't care for was you had to put it on max to use the generator

My Bobcat 225G is that way too. Never had to use it as a generator, but still may in the future. The longest outage we have had is 3 hours in the last 14 years.
