OTC Hub grappler

Last month I had a 2004 Dodge 2500 extended cab come in for a complete front end steering linkage exchange.. All new rods including the pan hard rod..

Because there was so much slop in the whole thing once I had it all back together it turned out that it had a bad wheel bearing assembly as well..

this sucker was seized to no avail..

I hit it with Kroil came back a few hours later no go.. I ended up hitting it with the long stroke air hammer and after 3hrs it finally came loose..

Week later I had a Toyota 4Runner SR5 come in with bad wheel bearing as well.

I decided it was time to upgrade my wheel bearing/hub removal setup (Last set was a professional set but the name eludes me right now and it wasn't supposed to be used with air tools and was designed for European cars as I specifically bought it for the Audi)

Anyhow, I also bought the hydraulic setup for it as the price combined would be decent.. Well sorta.. It has a good warranty though everything is made in China, and you can use air tools..

Next time you do a Dodge try this. I found this on line somewhere.

I'd look into getting some fittings that will match that air over hydraulic power pack so you can use it with porta power rams and other fun stuff.

I just used my 1/2" extension bar or a long 3/4"" bolt. Power steering is the easy way to pop those hubs.

Funny you should mention it.. My strut compressor is a manual hydraulic unit and has the same fittings..

I forgot to mention this thing was/is a rust bucket.. It wasn't because of a good fit up that it didn't want to come apart..

It was because of all the rust.. You would have thought this thing spent it's life on a beach plowing ocean sand, but it's life was in MA and it is so rusty..

When I cleaned everything up and compared it to the new one there was nearly 0.003 clearance between the rusted part and the new one..

Gen, having been stationed there for 3 of my 4 "military years", the rust is no surprise to me - my first "affordable" car was a 9 year old Dodge, and we kept a couple pieces of firewood between front and back seat 'cause there wasn't enough metal left to hold bolts for the front seat - otherwise, if you touched the gas pedal that 383 would put you AND the seat in the BACK seat ...Steve

That reminds me of a late 60's Nova (IIRC) ex delivery vehicle for a Chinese restaurant that a mechanic friend of mine bought and hopped up.
That thing would go like a scalded cat, but since the front seat had been removed for repairs, and the temporary one he was using was a five gallon bucket, you can guess how hairy it was to control that car when he put his foot halfway through the firewall and the bucket was going every which way .

What exactly does the hubtamer push on? I too have had issues with getting unit bearing hubs off here in salty upstate NY(the power steering trick works well). I have my reservations about pushing on the axle shaft stub though.
