![]() The story is he was charging his laptop, the laptop started a fire and pretty much destroyed everything in the garage. laptop was about 8 feet to the right of the lathe sitting just behind his tabletop mill, the mill was on a wooden bench the legs burned out and the mill crashed to the floor. Also destroyed some type of laser engraver, Lincoln Mig welder, 3D printer, 3D resin printer, Mill,...... There was a Miller TIG welder 210 something, the face was pretty much melted he would have given that to me but I did not have anywhere to store it, figure for about $200 the TIG welder would have been repairable it went to the junk man. His pictures of the lathe showed the belts were unaffected by the heat, did melt the plastic drum switch. guessing about 250 degrees would not effect the metal parts on the lathe. I handed him his asking price $100. At the same time there was a 3" vise on the floor, asked him how much he said $10, I handed him a twenty and said keep the change.

You have quite a few hours of "clean up" ahead but it'll be worth it. :-)

You sure you don't live in Tucson?
A month ago on a Monday morning, fire trucks arrived just down the block to put out a garage fire. The new owners had just moved in in the previous two days. A mobility scooter was being charged overnight and smoldered and finally caught fire around 5-6:00 AM, setting fire to the contents of the garage. The house was not damaged by the fire itself, but the smoke got in and damaged most of the house. Thank God nobody was hurt. I talked to the guy a day later. He said he would salvage and keep his machine shop equipment. On edit, that is a "smoking" deal.

He gave me the tool kit that goes with the lathe., most importantly it looks like I got all the gears and the jaws for the three jaw chuck.

That's what I was thinking, I miss judged the smell just cleaning may not get rid of the burnt smell.

Use a good primer sealer before topcoat . When wood use Kilz on the burn . I would think a sealer would do the same on the metal parts .

did look at a can of Kilz stated sealer and odor blocker but stated only good on painted metal, a lot of new paints don't do well on metals so went with Rust-oleum.
