Don't know if anyone around here calls it windproof. More like a barn lantern.

It should get the lads appetite sharpened as he realizes metal is a plastic material. People don't realize that steel is pliable and formable, and you can teach that with a bit of tin.

You are exactly right, Gerry. He is getting into it. In the next week or so we will be getting into using some of my turning machines and stakes to get the rest of the forming done.

I can teach pretty well when I don't have a stake in the game. Very patient as a rule.

But when it comes to working at something that needs doing, I'm not a good teacher. I tend to expect people to know what to do. K'kins hates to do any rigging with me. She doesn't grasp the concept of wrapping/hooking chains. (Matter of fact, lotta people don't ). So, I'm always climbing off the loader,, with a deep sigh, and doing the job. Drives her nuts But I never yell, or lecture.....just do it. That's why we're still together.

+1 on the signaling. Hate it when someone is using their 4 fingers telling me to keep coming and then, up go both arms waving all over the place.

Just a little update. We have been doing the punching on the lanterns. He says it's getting old. LOL. I brought the rest of the parts home to knock them out before next meeting. Things are looking good though.

It's a new age, man. World is point and click. He has to get used to spending TIME on stuff that matters. I hope he will. You've done the best you can, by providing the kid with the tools. Nothing more you can do if he doesn't cotton to it. Good luck, wish you well. I hate to see the world go out with a whimper.

He likes the idea of making something. He actually requested the merit. Just the hours of banging to get the holes punched are wearing on him a bit. He wants to do a welding project when it warms up. Gotta do that outside, don't want the results of welding over carpet........

Probably a good idea to pound a few for him so he does not lose interest .
