Farm Shop tool improvement

I have a bunch of these around, they never seem to be accurate or consistant for long. I undid all the mechanism, solder a pipe coupling to adapt it to a liquid filled guage. I will get couple of 2 inch guages but this looks like it will work. Easy to read and I have a couple others I am going to plumb like this.

That should work good as long as nobody throws them around and breaks the gauge.

good idea Sberry, but how do you know if they are accurate? I have a couple around, one with a needle guage (like what you have shown) and one with the little slide guage that pops out to show the pressure.

I bought what was available at the local farm store, but are minumal quality at best. I'm sure they are less than accurate.

Nice work, I always like to see how other modify their tools to work better, unlike the idiots that design them at times. Those inflator/gauge combos always were a bit touchy, and they gauge always screws up. Nice mod.

Oil filled gauges cost a bit more and are typically higher quality it should be quite accurate.

Sberry, there has been several(many actually) discussions concerning air pressure guages and their abuse and calibration. (across the www)

If you were to check around you area at the truck stop type locations, or specifically those truckstops that will have a repair station etc, they will have calibration stations for your (airpressure) guages. Considering that they have their calibrating equipment current in calibration.

The larger trucks tires seem to be particular in pressures and the service is available to those that drive and maintain those trucks.

Wow, learn something everyday! Never knew farm equipment tires needed to be filled that accurate. Indy, and Nascars, yeah, but farm equipment?

Well, most of my stuff is on steel tracks, but I even had one of those go flat (see flat tire )

I don't worry too much about the backhoe or tractors (fill 'em when they look 1/2 flat) , but if you have semi's or any other truck on the road accuracy is an serious issue.

That's right PB. Modern farm tractors use lasar equipment to help control wheel slippage over the soil. Lug wear and fuel economy are the goals.
