It will greatly speed up the prototype process, but I would find it hard to think it will see much in production runs , except in small parts .

If this ever becomes cheap enough for a small custom shop, replacing body parts that have been rusted out or missing when restoring a antique vehicle would be a good business. Need a piece of fender wheel well edge that has turned to iron oxide, ok, watch this.
Or replacing some crappy plastic part that keeps breaking with a metal part, no problem. Or take a sheet of stainless and make a custom sink or a bowl.

It would be a prototype/low volume type of process, with limitations. Things that are ‘deep drawn’ like beverage cans for example wouldn’t work. The metal would get too thin and want to crack and break.
I can see though, give it some time, and someone will figure out how to make the lower ‘bed’ portion, and start doing this on an old CNC mill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Destin Sandler of Smarter Everyday is doing a deeper dive into the robo-forming processes. The company he's videoing uses two robots pushing against each other.

I've shared this with two of the better hot rod shops here in town and so far neither of them are willing to buy one so I can come watch it work

I wonder what that little gem costs? But it is very cool technology.

Indeed, and those “small parts” will likely be very expensive. I’m thinking art work for the rich and famous.
