and Poly vinyl chloride? What do those have to do with welders??? 80V for open circuit is not unexpected. That value is fine. Did you check each lead to the chassis of the welder yet?

Yes I have. That reading was constantly fluctuating between (minus) -.06vdc and a (positive) +1.0vdc. It never settled to any steady voltage. Just up and back down, back up and back down.

I used the welder again yesterday briefly, DCEN stick, and I was not shocked once. Used it in Tig mode last night for a little while and was not shocked.

Heck, that is funny. I have been using an Ipad lately, and that stupid bitch is always trying to trip me up by 'correcting' what I am trying to write, it just doesn't insert it until after you have moved on to the next word. What I was trying to say is that 78VDC seems a bit high OCV to me.

My old 1974 Dialarc is spec'd at 75-76V. 1979 vintage is spec'd at 70-71. One of the newer ones is 70-79V.
Try typing in "I voted for some dumb son-of-a-bitch" and see if it corrects it to "Obama".

My multi meter will flash A/C if you are on the dc side when there is A/C current present. Maybe try your meter on A/C.

I am from what you have reported, I'd say it is your leads not your machine.

If you were wet with sweat and had damp gloves and getting a boot, you were not grounded. I can't think of a reason why you would be hit on one polarity but not on the other. First stop is to check the mechanical/electrical condition of your work return terminal and hand piece connections. Quite often there's bad connection in the G Clamp or spring loaded A clamp bolted connections.Next stop is the machine out put connections. This occurs more so with bolt up connections rather than twist lock connectors. Oz
