Default Back-Halfing A 1984 Cutlass Supreme

Dr Fish (of race truck fame) sold the 8 second race truck and is in the process of building, hopefully a 10.5 second drag car. He found a engineless 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, 2 door, vinyl roof car from Alabama. With zero rust and a great velour interior for $2000. Yesterday, we went to S&W Race Cars in Spring City, Pa and picked up a jig welded, 4 link rear frame kit, rear wheel tubs, roll cage and rear suspension parts, to redo the back-half of the car. The car will end up with a full reinforced frame, a 8 point roll cage, a 613 cu/in BBC with a Powerglide, along power windows and A/C. His interest is not to go as fast as possible, but to go about 10.5 sec, consistently. As the build goes, I try to post a few pictures. I sure that Red Caddy has done one or two of these jobs in the past, along with a few others.

Tonight we gutted the interior, cut out chucks of the floor and test fitted the rear frame assembly. Tomorrow, were suppose to do the final fit up and weld the frame section in and actually start building the car. It is fun to rip, tear and snare!! (especially on someone else's dime)

A high-fiber diet might help.

Yep, that's a fun build all right.

The last one I was involved with, (The buick Regal version) we added the strut front package and a one piece, aero 'glass tilt front end.
Fully gutted, lightened, plexi'd, aluminum interior, lift off doors and a double pro stock cage. Part pro street, part pro stock. It still retained state minium lights, wipers, horn, and a plate, but it was a no bullshit racecar. A serious player in the 8.90 index and quick rod wars.

Originally set up with a mild BBC, a pro charger and a 5 speed Liberty multi stick trans, it was a beast.

Last I heard, it was sold to a rich kid, somewhear up in the panhandle, and was being street driven...

Keep us up to date, this will be a fun build to watch. (no skin in this game, LOL)
