Default Axle surgeon

Had a first at the ranch today. Buddies freightliner got to where it would not hold king pins anymore. He set up for an axle surgeon to come and repair the axle at my shop. I tore it down last night and had it ready to go this am. Didn’t take the dude 2 hours and he was done including hand reaming to a perfect fit. Really nice guy and I hope to never see him again. This is too much like work.

Now there is a new tool you need now I actually have one I bought a few years ago at an estate sale not sure why I bought it to begin with cause I did not know what it was used for, For some time an thought id make it useful some how or another but never did...it was missing the bottom bracket that mounts the unit to the axle but the guys son called me a month later and said he had found more tool pieces he thought went with it and they did...

my machine tool guy has it now and is going to sell it for me he said it was worth quite a bit but I told him if he can get me 400 for it id be happy....an he could keep what ever on top that for his self...

although he thought I should keep it considering the work I do but I told him ya have to know how to use it first and big axle stuff I don't even care to mess with atTall..

Something like that has many uses besides axles. Portable boring machine like that can be used for line boring pins for equipment, with adapters could be used for boring out for O/S cylinder liners, or whatever. First thing I would do is adapt it to use a milling machine boring head. I used to have an old Sunnin cylinder boring rig adapted that way til I lost it in a fire in 1996.

Yes. Pic #5 is showing the sleeve before he cut it off.

At a garage I used to hang around (and get called in for grunt work)
30 years ago, got in a Volvo semi truck.

Kingpin replacement.

It had timken tapered roller bearings top & bottom.

We never saw one before, but the garage owner thought it wasn't
a bad idea, seeing how the truck had 550k on the clock, said brass
bushings didn't go nearly as far.

Replacement work was easy, just change out parts.
