Default Knife preform video

I was asked by a fellow smith on another forum how to forge a knife.. We then got into discussions about an a few books I had read 30 years ago.. These books at this time were 90 years old..

In both books by 2 different people they were on knife making as well as general forging of blades for both industry (what was way back) and for home use.

anyhow, in the book they never called them a name, they just said "Use the appropriate stock so you never have to hit the blade on the edge to control width or finish" They felt this ruined the grain structure and was simply forged out.. I've worked with Blister steel years ago and I could see this happening..

For those that don't know blister steel is amazing stuff and will keep and edge like crazy.

Well, this lead me to film the making of a blade explaining the "Preform".

Nice video, (I watched the short version) where'd you get that thickness measuring gauge that you used at about 16:20?

Glad to see you are getting over the camera shyness. It does make the video much more personal.
