This coil has a small transistor that acts as the points. It is inside the coil so you cannot see it.

The Predator 8hp has the same rotation, and shaft diameter, but is 1/2" shorter in length than the Briggs. May or may not be an issue.

All I can figure now is I bought the wrong...

All I can figure now is I bought the wrong magneto and the other one I listed is the right one. Like I mentioned before, the spare wire is likely for an application for an on/off switch.
