I have used the hydraulic type but it would need a 40 ton to split some of my big rounds....

Thanks digr. The PTO is a 540 rpm and the tractor motor is only turning just above idle going into a 4 speed truck tranny in reverse gear, so the screw turns pretty slow. No risk of shaft vibration...

Screw log splitter mod

My screw log splitter was used on my (sold) Farrmall H. Now mounting it on my Massey 1100, I find the PTO shaft to be too short. So I find out the slip joint is not square tube but rectangular tube....

They all look pretty fair to me. My only suggestion is to shorten your arc length and up the amps 5 or ten. That will reduce the splatter and increase your penetration a bit.

For reducing vibration build a steel box with 2-3 inches each side clearance and use foam blocks below and on each side. Will help a lot to reduce vibration on the battery.

I would not expect those batteries to work in a dual battery diesel truck, but a welder does not pull many amps, so I would think that they would work fine.
