Thicker oil is really only bad if the car sits for days without it running. The upper part of the engine might be loud for a bit. I doubt going up 5 is going to be noticeable.

Look for a brand that has square cut edges. The one I use for problem screws is a snap on.When I'm at work today I'll look at the Husky one I have to see if the contacts are square cut or rounded.

Most of the 1/2 drive hand sockets are 12 point unless you go out of your way to order them. The 1/2 drive impacts are usually 6 point. I think it's so you round the head instead of break the socket...
