Your use is what it was designed for.

It will be noisy and leak down, so don't leave it plugged in.
Plug it in when needed and wait the 10 min it takes to fill the tank.

I do not know about the GM pulleys.
But I have found that a complete replacement pulley is cheaper than a bearing in my Fords.
And once you have it removed it is just as easy to put in a new one as...

I do not have a dead blow hammer so I used a rubber mallet.
It is hard to get a good swing at the trans.
I thought about using a stick as a extension and hitting the end of the stick....
