Rub a little bead on the underside (concave side)...

Rub a little bead on the underside (concave side) close around the hole. That should do for pre-heat. Weld 'er up and let it cool slowly. Done.

Pre- and post-heat wouldn't hurt to avoid cracking and hardening in the HAZ area. They are hardened. Last I looked they were on the order of 1070 to 1080 steel.
