I would still recommend reels to roll up and store the cables. It is so much faster to just pull the cable straight out and double back with the cables pulled straight and not dealing with a coiled...

I have a lot of used firebrick taken from old boilers when my dad used to remove them 20+ years ago. (He been gone twenty years ago last week). Theses have mostly been out side in various piles...

I made a set of reels at old job for welder platform that we would set in the truck as needed. Used 1-1/4” pipe for the center piece, and a piece of 6” pipe for the reel. Welded in 1/4” round pieces...

I find it is nice to have the welder and plasma cutter both plugged in and turned on at the same time. You can switch from one to the other real quick then.
