I remember something similar plastic will just split on an other side.

I machined a steel bushing/ring to press over the plastic boss to keep it from splitting again.

yes pretty much the same, but acetylene is a bit tricky because it is a dirty gas (adjusting for that just right flame).
don't get the small smallest set the size of the acetylene bottle is critical...

I see no shoulder so you have a tapered chuck.

I can tell you an abrasive chop saw will make a mess the sparks will burn into a cement walkway so if you use it on cement it needs something to keep sparks from hitting...
