just throwing this out there have you checked the grounds battery to engine and battery to frame and battery to body. one test we used to do was take a test light or meter one lead to neg battery...

+1 on the puller using the 3 tapped holes. Put a good pull on it and then hit the puller with hammer the shock should loosen the taper I have had good luck with this method
