Dana 44 vs. Dana44HD axles

the 44HD version had thicker axle tubes, bigger bearings and brakes and there were changes made to the ring gear mounting bolts-I think they were bigger diameter..watch your axle spline vs.diff...

I seriously doubt they are a 10hp just by the physical size of the frame and shaft-I'd say around 3-5hp at the most..especially C-face in a rolled steel frame design. Yes the lead wire size does...

10HP phase converter

the black start caps are rated at 370VAC not 330V like I stated in the past. From the previous pics, the blue caps are DC only, useless for a converter.

shaft modification

instead of using a grinding wheel on the angle grinder, use a rubber backup pad and a 80grit sanding pad to get it close..for a much nicer surface finish..then full shaft rpm and a cloth sanding belt...

by all means use the highest rating caps you can get..BUT the larger voltage rated caps also use a bigger case size and can sometimes be a challenge to fit into the converter enclosure..the 440v...

having built many of these, here is a recipe I use that works well..20mfd per HP on the run side, 100mfd per HP on the start side. Use only 330V rated start caps, and 440v rated metal can run...

why not use a COMBINATION of a 4"bore double acting cylinder and a 1" or 2"bore cylinder; plumb BOTH extend cylinder ports to the 'A' port on the valve and only the 1"/2"cylinder port to the 'B'port...
