I don't know about studs but I just picked up some plywood and it has more or less doubled from Feb... 1/2" 4-ply went from $16.75 to $41.35 and 1/4" BC sanded went from $17.72 to $31.22 per sheet....

Not that this would help loosening, but I noticed that spinning the drum CW helped "tighten" the weirdo nut. :) Then a few alternating taps CW around the nut to final tighty.
