Please forgive the VERY crude sketch, but I would make a quick jig to hold the parts in alignment with some scrap flat bar.

Because your pipe is at an angle, two parallel flat bars will hold it...

I would recommend using .045 dualshield and pick up a bottle of co2. It's fairly inexpensive as far as shielding gas, and you can get it in small bottles if portability is a concern.

The thing I like about dewalt is the have a drawer unit that a guy could put kaizen...
