That vise looks just like the one I've had for about 60 years except mine has "Craftsman" on the line where yours has those numbers. Every 5 or 6 years I remember to lube the screw and rods. :-)

I think Norm has it. Bet the round peg is 5/8" that is the normal size of the hole on workbenches. The black jaw is a bit unusual. I suspect it was for a particular job.
