Duplicating a timed thread?

I have something I am working on that requires the thread to start in a particular place. I have a finished sample to work from. My plan is to make a jig that holds the part (finished) in place, set the pitch and bring it in until it mates up with the good thread. Turn by hand to check. I then would mark my thread dial with paint.
Put the unfinished part in the jig, and thread on the paint mark.

Sound about right or is there a better way?

I was just wondering (the AR receiver thread) how you were going to do that. :)

You might want to index the (finished) part in the jig so that the unfinished part goes in the same way.

Yeah, I figured it was the Naomi or Swami or something like that but the AR thread reminded me. :)
